Area students named to dean's list at Washington University

The following students were named to the Dean's List for the spring 2010 semester at Washington University in St. Louis.
Michele Moyer Rudolph of Ambler, was named to the Dean's List for the spring 2010 semester. Rudolph is a graduate of Wissahickon High School in Ambler, PA, and is enrolled in the university's School of Engineering & Applied Science. To qualify for the Dean's List in the School of Engineering, students must earn a semester grade point average of 3.6 or above and be enrolled in at least 12 graded units.
Eileen Ke of Maple Glen, was named to the Dean's List for the spring 2010 semester. Ke is a graduate of Germantown Academy in Fort Washington, PA, and is enrolled in the university's Olin Business School. To qualify for the Dean's List in the Olin Business School, a student must earn a semester grade point average of 3.6 or higher, and be enrolled in at least 12 hours of graded course work.

Area student graduates from Denison University

A local student was among the 519 graduates awarded diplomas at Denison University's 169th commencement held May 16. Those awarded degrees by President Dale T. Knobel include the following:
Kristine Elizabeth Aman, a Souderton Area High School student from Souderton earned a Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in English writing. Aman was a recipient of the Denison Founders Award, the Distinguished Leadership Award and the National Merit Scholarship. She spent a semester studying abroad with the Arts and Culture program in India.

Local man on dean's list at Frostburg State University

Timothy Sutcliffe of Lansdale, has been named to the dean's list at Frostburg State University, Frostburg, Md., for outstanding academic achievement for the spring 2010 semester.
To be eligible for the dean's list, a student must complete a minimum of 12 credit hours and earn a cumulative semester grade point average of at least 3.4 on a 4.0 scale.

Local scholar awarded Department of Energy Fellowship

The Krell Institute announced that Carmeline Dsilva of North Wales, has been awarded a Computational Science Graduate Fellowship from the Department of Energy. Dsilva, a 2006 graduate of North Penn High School, will pursue a doctoral degree in the field of chemical engineering at Princeton University beginning in the fall.

The Department of Energy Computational Science Graduate Fellowship (DOE CSGF) is a highly competitive program funded by the Office of Science and Office of Defense Programs. Initiated by the Office of Science and first awarded in 1991, this fellowship has supported more than 250 students at over 50 universities. Fellowships are granted annually and fund the education of doctoral students whose course of study focuses on the use of high-performance computers to solve complex problems in science and engineering.

Local woman named to dean's list at Virginia Military Institute

Gabrielle M. McCarron - a rising senior from Harleysville, is majoring in English and International Studies is among 486 cadets who were recenlty named to the dean's list for the second semester of academic year 2009-10 at Virginia Military Institute.
Cadet McCarron's parents are Mr. and Mrs. Stephen R. McCarron.
To be eligible for the Dean's List, a cadet must have a term grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale and no grade below C.

Area students inducted into Phi Kappa Phi

More than 130 Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania undergraduates and nine graduate students were recently inducted into Phi Kappa Phi, an honor society which recognizes and promotes academic excellence in all fields of higher education.
Membership in Phi Kappa Phi is by invitation and requires nominations and approval by a chapter. Members are elected from the top 5 percent of last-term juniors and the top 10 percent of seniors, along with outstanding graduate students.

SAHS students receive scholarships

Established in 1965, the Souderton Area Community Scholarship has awarded over $500,000 in the past 45 years. The scholarships are awarded Souderton Area High school seniors on a financial need and academic basis, through an application process and interviews. This year $23,500 will be distributed to the senior recipients’ schools of choice. Any individual or business interested in more information or wishing to donate to this very worthy scholarship should contact the president of the committee, Scott Clemens at Fretz Insurance, Souderton.
