Area natives inducted into Honor Societies at Susquehanna University

Whitney R. Arcaro of Harleysville was one of 20 students recently inducted into Pi Gamma Mu social sciences honor society at Susquehanna University.
Arcaro, a rising senior majoring in psychology and sociology, is a 2007 graduate of Souderton Area High School and the daughter of Armand and Karen Arcaro.
The purpose of Pi Gamma Mu is to encourage the study of the social sciences and to achieve synthesis therein; to inspire social service to humanity by an intelligent approach to the solution of social problems; and to recognize outstanding achievement. The Pennsylvania Gamma chapter was established in 1927.
Bryn Whitmire of Lederach was recently inducted into Susquehanna University’s Kappa Mu Epsilon mathematics honor society. Nine new students were inducted in honor of their significant achievements in the mathematics field.
Whitmire, a rising senior majoring in mathematics and secondary education at Susquehanna, is a 2007 graduate of Souderton High School and the daughter of Ken and Judi Whitmire.
Kappa Mu Epsilon chapters are located in colleges and universities of recognized standing which offer a strong mathematics major. Members are selected from students of mathematics and other closely related fields who have maintained standards of scholarship, have professional merit and have attained academic distinction. The Susquehanna chapter was chartered in 1969.

Area student president of Alpha Phi Omega at Susquehanna University; student inducted

Tina Statkevicz of Lansdale was recently elected president of the Susquehanna University chapter of Alpha Phi Omega, a co-educational service fraternity.
The purpose of the fraternity is to assemble college students in the fellowship and principles of leadership, friendship and service to humanity.
Statkevicz will begin her senior year at Susquehanna this fall, where she is studying biology. She is a 2007 graduate of Wissahickon High School and is the daughter of Raymond and Dorothy Statkevicz.

Kaitlyn Kinsey of Hatfield is one of thirty-one students recently inducted into the Susquehanna University chapter of Alpha Phi Omega, a co-educational service fraternity.
The purpose of the fraternity is to assemble college students in the fellowship and principles of leadership, friendship and service to humanity. Members complete a minimum of 40 hours of service per year.
Kinsey will begin her sophomore year this fall at Susquehanna, where she majors in communications with an emphasis in public relations. She is a 2009 graduate of North Penn High School, and the daughter of Karen and Jeffrey Kinsey.

Chalfton man earns award at University of Scranton

Albert A. Tielemans of Chalfont was among The University of Scranton's 12 alumni who received the Jesuit school's annual Frank J. O'Hara Awards during Alumni Reunion Weekend June 11-13 on campus.
The O'Hara Awards, named for a late administrator who faithfully served the University for 53 years, are the highest honor bestowed jointly by the University and its Alumni Board. The awards recognize Scranton graduates and others who have achieved distinction in their professional or personal endeavors

Local students serves internship in South Africa

Rochelle Landis of Souderton is serving an internship at Africhic in Capetown, South Africa this summer. She is a senior majoring in business administration at Susquehanna University. Landis’s responsibilities include assisting in search engine optimization and social media marketing as well as other office duties. Through the course of the internship, she will gain experience through practicing online marketing techniques.
Landis is a 2007 graduate of Christoper Dock Mennonite High School and is the daughter of Randy and Tammy Landis.

Area student inducted into National Order of Omega

Bryn Whitmire of Lederach was inducted into the Susquehanna University chapter of The National Order of Omega.
The Order of Omega is a national Greek honor society founded to recognize fraternity men and women who have attained a high standard of leadership in Greek activities, to encourage them to continue along this line and to inspire others to strive for similar recognition; to bring together members of the faculty, alumni, and student members of the institution’s fraternities and sororities on a basis of mutual interest, understanding and helpfulness; and to help create an atmosphere where ideas and issues can be discussed openly across Greek lines.
To be eligible for membership, a student must be a junior or senior member of a social Greek organization, have a cumulative grade point average (GPA) equal to or higher than the all-Greek GPA, and be an active participant in their own chapter, Greek life and campus life. Susquehanna’s Epsilon Gamma chapter was chartered in 1983.
Whitmire, a rising senior, is a 2007 graduate of Souderton High School and the daughter of Ken and Judi Whitmire.
