SAHS announces students of the month

Students from Souderton Area High School have been named as Students of the Month for April. Students are nominated by their teachers for showing exceptional characteristics such as responsibility, leadership, respect, honesty, and citizenship.
Souderton Area School District provided the following information:
Freshman Travis Copenhaver says his favorite subject is English because he loves to write and be creative. He puts his interest in learning new words to work in the journalism club. He has served as the director for 9th grade Key Club and plays the violin. After high school graduation, Travis plans to pursue a degree as a child psychologist. He is the son of Sheila and Terry Copenhaver of Souderton.
Freshman Mikayla Allen is a member of the Big Red Marching Band and Forte’ Indoor Colorguard. She loves languages, German in particular, and learning about other cultures. Although Mikayla hasn’t narrowed down a field of study, she knows she wants to attend college after high school. She is the daughter of Marie and David Allen of Souderton.
Sophomore Ryan Connolly says math is his favorite subject because it is his best. He participates in student government, plays basketball and plans to attend college after high school. He is the son of Terry and Jim Connolly of Harleysville.
Sophomore Sarah Parcell enjoys chemistry because “the material is interesting and the class really challenges me to do my best.” She is very active in sports playing softball and hockey. She is a member of Students Against Violating the Earth (SAVE). After high school, Sarah plans to spend a year as a missionary in Africa and then attend college to pursue a career in peace relations or something involving the environment. She is the daughter of Donna and Jon Parcell of Souderton.
Junior Miles Hartl plays saxophone in the jazz band, and is a member of the Spanish, SAVE, and CrossFit clubs. His favorite subject is history because “it is the best explanation for how we got to where we are today.” He plans to attend college after high school. Miles is the son of Lorraine and Dave Hartl of Telford.
Junior Kelsey Hendler hopes to pursue a career in either medicine, music education, or vocal performance. She has built a distinguished musical resume’ during her time at SAHS with her participation in advanced, concert, and show choirs and district, regional, and state chorus. She is a member of the Movement Club and Fellowship of Christian Athletes. She performed in the spring musical, Beauty and the Beast. Kelsey is the daughter of David and Collette Hendler of Souderton.
Michael Denison, Class of 2010, plays the alto sax in the marching band, jazz band, and indoor drumline but says English is his favorite subject. He loves writing and classes where there is no wrong answer “as long as I can defend my answer.” Mike plans to study journalism at the University of Maryland after graduation. He is the son of Gary and Barbara Denison of Souderton.
Cassondra Diaz, Class of 2010, also known as Cassie, had a starring role in Beauty and the Beast, the high school spring musical. She is well known throughout the district for her talented vocal performances and participation in the a capella group and all choirs. She loves singing and says music is her passion. When not singing, Cassie is a member of the Link Crew, National Honor Society, and student government. She plans to study music education at Lebanon Valley College to become a high school music teacher. She is the daughter of Richard and Ramona Diaz of Harleysville.
