NPSH physical education teacher honored

The North Penn School District announced that North Penn High School physical education teacher Takiyah Thomas was recently named as the Outstanding Young Professional by the Southeastern District Local Association of Pennsylvania State Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (PSAHPERD).

Thomas is currently in her third year of teaching at North Penn High School (NPHS). She is known to approach all of her responsibilities at NPHS with enthusiasm and dedication. She teachers the twelfth grade Team Sports course, as well as an Anatomy course. In addition, Thomas teaches eleventh grade Health and Society, eleventh grade Life Fitness and twelfth grade Racquet Sports.

She received her BA in Mass Communications from Lock Haven University and then went on for her Post-Baccalaureate Teacher Certification at West Chest University for Health and Physical Education. In the past, she has worked as a youth sports instructor, an assistant camp director and has a multitude of coaching opportunities, including the present position of head coach of a West Chester United Girls’ Soccer Club and part of the training staff for a Goalkeeping Academy for the West Chester United Soccer Club.
