Indian Valley Middle School students win essay contest
When is the right time to honor our military heroes? That question was posed to students at Indian Valley Middle School by members of the Telford/Souderton VFW in the form of the Patriot Pen essay competition. Three students were chosen as entry level winners. At a small reception at the school, the students read their speeches to fellow team members and parents. Winners were selected and presented with a cash prize by VFW representative, Jeff Hill.
First place winner, Jennifer Giannini, was awarded $125. Second place winner, Victoria Bateman, was awarded $100. Third place winner, Sabrina Elyse Bimson, was awarded $75. Hill, who served during the Vietnam aboard an aircraft carrier, personally read all of the essays. “They were all excellent,” he said. “The sentiments expressed made us feel good as veterans.”
