Local woman wins Avon Scholarship

The Avon Foundation for Women has awarded Christiana Karr from Lansdale, with a 2010 Avon Representative Scholarship. Karr will be attending Gwynedd-Mercy College in Gwynedd Valley, during the 2010-11 academic year. The scholarship is designed to assist independent Avon Sales Representatives who are enrolled (or who plan to enroll) in an undergraduate or graduate course of study leading to a degree in a field that allows them to advance their careers.

Scholarship recipients are selected on the basis of academic record, demonstrated leadership and participation in school and community service activities, honors, work experience, statement of goals and aspirations, unusual personal or family circumstances, and an outside appraisal. Academic and non-academic criteria are evaluated equally. Financial need is not considered.

Carol Kurzig, president of the Avon Foundation for Women, said: “The Avon Foundation for Women understands it is important for all Avon Sales Representatives to have the opportunity to continue their education to help pave the way to their future economic advancement. We are so pleased to be able to award Christiana Karr with this scholarship to further her education.”
