Two Souderton Area students earn scholarships

 Moyer Indoor Outdoor announces the 2012 recipients of the Moyer Indoor Outdoor 5K Cross Country Scholarship, Melanie Tramontina and Greg Mendrzycki. Both students attend Souderton Area High School and are outstanding members of the Cross Country team. The students were awarded their scholarships on June 6 at Moyer Indoor Outdoor in Souderton.  Bob Williamson, General Manager, Moyer Indoor Outdoor, presented the senior’s their awards.


Melanie Tramontina is a 4 year varsity letter winner in cross country and track and a captain of both teams. She is a 3 time district qualifier in the 3200 meters and holds the school record at 11:35. She also holds the school record for the current cross country course. She has without question led and been the role model for the entire cross country team for the past 2 years. She is a great student and is a member of the Montgomery County 4H Program. She will be attending Muhlenberg College in the fall where she will continue to participate in cross country and track.

Greg Mendrzycki was a 3 sport athlete for Souderton.  He earned 4 Cross Country letters including Team Captain, 3 Basketball Letters, and 4 Letters in Track.  In Addition he has participated in numerous activities at Souderton High School including Principal Student Advisory Council, Link Crew, Orchestra, Band, and the School Musical.  Greg will attend Montgomery County Community College majoring in Biology and will play on the Basketball Team.

Both scholarships are supported by the annual Moyer Indoor Outdoor 5K event. Held at Souderton’s Community Park, this year is the 18th annual 5K Race and is scheduled for Wednesday, July 11th. The race starts and ends near the Souderton Community Park entrance near Main Street. The festivities begin at 6:30 PM with the kid’s race and the 5K and walk begin at 7 PM.  Proceeds from the race benefit the Moyer Indoor Outdoor Souderton Area Cross Country Scholarship.  For more information or to register for the event please visit emoyer.com.
