SASD Middle Schools hold MS READaTHONS

Students attending Indian Valley Middle School and Indian Crest Middle School are proud to have each hosted a READaTHON, a program of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, the Souderton Area School District announced.

The SASD submitted the following information:

During the READaTHON, students read books to raise money to benefit MS research and local services for over 11,000 persons who have multiple sclerosis and their families. Students at Indian Valley Middle School raised $3,325.00 during their READaTHON.

Stephen Dietrich, sixth grade, was the top reader in the school reading 22 books. By collecting $260 from sponsors, Adam Donley, seventh grade, was the top fund raiser. Austin Rabut, seventh grade, secured the highest number of sponsors – 9.

Jackie Duggan, language arts teacher, coordinated the efforts at Indian Valley. Valley has been sponsoring a MS READaTHON for six years.

This was the first year of participation for Indian Crest Middle School and they raised an impressive $2,737.45 during their READaTHON. Sixth-graders Matthew Blankenstein and Ivan Villageois tied as the top school readers by each reading 25 books. Alex Cross, seventh grade, not only obtained the most sponsors (17), but he also raised an amazing $500! Stephanie Dedominic, learning support teacher, coordinated the efforts at Indian Crest.

“We are very thankful for the huge support from Souderton Area School District,” said Kristin Marnie, Sr. Development Coordinator of the Nation Multiple Sclerosis Society’s Greater Delaware Valley Chapter.

“The students are our littlest fund raisers. They are helping to create a world free of MS and through their participation; they are really going to a great thing.”
