Gwynedd-Mercy College students attend Washington, D.C. justice advocacy conference
More than 40 students and staff from Mercy-sponsored colleges and universities recently traveled to Washington, D.C. to learn about advocacy through the lens of immigration issues. From May 20-24, five students represented Gwynedd-Mercy College as they participated in a symposium, lobbying and meeting with legislators.
Desiree Rose, Stephanie Alvarez, Lizabeth Leyes, Filipe Beauduy, and Gina Ferrera were accompanied by Betty Scanlon, RSM, associate director of campus ministry for community service. The group also visited an immigrant center and heard from faith-based advocates about their work.

Other colleges and universities who participated in the program co-sponsored by the Conference of Mercy Higher Education: University of Detroit Mercy in Detroit, Mich., Georgian Court University in Lakewood, N.J., Misericordia University in Dallas, Pa., Mount Aloysius College in Cresson, Pa., Mount Mercy University in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Saint Joseph College in West Hartford, Conn., Saint Joseph’s College in Standish, Maine, and Saint Xavier in Chicago, Ill.
