Souderton students recognized with community service award

The Student Community Service Award, an initiative of the Indian Valley Chamber of Commerce’s Education Committee, was created to recognize students for their outstanding contributions to society through significant community service. This award serves the dual purpose of recognizing such contributions and providing role models for other students and the community at large.
Five students were recently honored at a luncheon at the Indian Valley Country Club for being selected for the 2010 award. They are Matt Breen, Souderton Area High School; Maddie Goertel, Souderton Area High School; Caroline Lynch, Christopher Dock Mennonite High School; Jillian Leatherman, Christopher Dock Mennonite High School; and Matt Roynan, Souderton Area High School.
To qualify for this recognition, nominees met the following criteria: they must be in grades 9 through 12; must demonstrate leadership by having established a new project or enhancing an existing project which benefits the community; must demonstrate the six pillar of Character: Trustworthiness, Responsibility, Respect, Fairness, Caring, and Citizenship; and must demonstrate outstanding community service.
