Souderton Area graduate recieves theater arts award
Each
year Playcrafters of Skippack sponsors the Bill Moyer Theater Arts Award, a $500
presentation to a high school senior from the area who is pursuing a
career in the arts.
This
year the Bill Moyer Theater Arts
Award was presented to Suzanne C. Rainear. She has appeared in three productions at
Playcrafters and has also worked as a choreographer
at Playcafters and another area community theater. She is
graduating from Souderton Area High School and has appeared in various roles
including as a featured dancer in “Footloose” and just recently as Anita
in “West Side Story.”
She is a member of
IST (International Thespian Society) and plans to study musical theater
at the University of the Arts in Philadelphia. The award was
presented to Suzanne by Donna Cockenberg, the award
chairperson.
The program began in 1982 as
the Playcrafters Theater Arts Award and was given each year to a High
School Senior in the Perkiomen Valley School District. In
1994, the name of the Award was changed to The Bill Moyer Theater Arts
Award as a memorial to long time Playcrafter, Bill Moyer (one of the
founding members of the group) and Playcrafters
opened the award competition to other area high schools. Donations to
this fund are always accepted.
